Many golfers hate the beginning of the season. Winter greens get worse just as they're starting to improve. Why do greenskeepers always seem to hate the golfers and aerate the greens?
To put it simply, like this USGA article, the well-manicured conditions of the golf course couldn't be maintained without it. Sanding aerified greens help balance the soil composition and remove excess organic matter. Removing this helps maintain a proper moisture balance near the roots and firms up the greens, promoting a healthier surface.
Speaking of aerification, keep an eye out the next couple of weeks. Our greens will be aerated and conditions may not be up to par at the time. However, this process will lead to healthier greens and amazing conditions for the summer!
